About JPG to PNG

JPG to PNG re-encodes your photos as PNG, a lossless format that stores every pixel exactly as it was decoded. It is the sensible step before editing a picture again and again, because PNG does not lose a little more detail each time you save. The conversion runs on your own machine in JavaScript, so the photos are never sent to us.

How to use JPG to PNG

  1. Add your JPG or JPEG files by dropping, browsing or pasting them.
  2. Leave the Convert to row on PNG; the Quality slider disappears, as PNG has no quality setting.
  3. Click Convert to PNG and wait for the result cards to appear.
  4. Download files one at a time, or take the whole set with Download all (.zip).

What people use it for

  • Keeping a master copy of an edited photo that you will crop and re-save many times.
  • Preparing a certificate scan or logo for software that refuses JPG files.
  • Fixing a screenshot saved as JPG whose blocky edges around text look messy in a document.
  • Sending an image to a printer or designer who asked for lossless files.

Good to know

PNG files are commonly two to five times larger than the JPG they came from, because nothing is thrown away. Converting cannot restore detail the original JPG already lost, and it cannot add transparency, so a white background stays a white background. Photographs stay large; screenshots and flat graphics compress much better.

Frequently asked questions

Will the PNG look better than the JPG?
No, it will look identical. PNG preserves exactly what the JPG contains, so compression artefacts already baked into the original file stay visible in the converted copy.
Why is my PNG bigger than the original?
PNG is lossless, so it records every pixel instead of approximating them. Photographs hold far too much colour variation for PNG to compress well, and three to five times the size is completely normal.
Can I convert hundreds of files at once?
Yes. Add them all and a single Convert click handles the batch, and a Download all (.zip) button appears as soon as there are two or more finished files.
