About BMP to JPG
BMP files store every pixel raw with no compression at all, so one scanned page can easily run past 20 MB. Converting to JPG typically shrinks it by around 95% with no visible change on screen. It is the quickest fix for output from MS Paint, older flatbed scanners and legacy billing software. Everything is converted inside your browser.
How to use BMP to JPG
- Add the .bmp files, one at a time or a whole folder's worth.
- Keep Convert to on JPG.
- Set Quality: 85 to 92% is plenty for scans and screenshots.
- Click Convert to JPG and download the much smaller files.
What people use it for
- Shrinking scans from an old flatbed scanner that only saves BMP.
- E-mailing screenshots produced by legacy Windows or accounting software.
- Bringing BMP output under the upload limit on a form or portal.
- Archiving years of BMP files without filling up the drive.
Good to know
Because BMP has no compression, the size drop is dramatic: a 24-bit 1920x1080 BMP is about 6 MB and lands near 300 KB as JPG. Pixel dimensions do not change. Any transparency is flattened onto the background colour you pick. Very large BMPs can be slow to decode on a phone, so convert those a few at a time.
