About Split Excel

Split Excel breaks one large sheet into several smaller files. Cut it every N rows when a portal refuses big uploads, split by a column such as City, Branch or GSTIN to give each team only its own rows, or save every sheet of a workbook as a separate file. The header row is repeated in each output. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use Split Excel

  1. Open the Excel or CSV file and choose the sheet to work on.
  2. Pick Every N rows, By column value, or Each sheet as the split mode.
  3. Enter the rows per file, or choose which column to group by.
  4. Select XLSX or CSV output and click Split file, then download the parts.

What people use it for

  • Cutting a 50,000-row list into 5,000-row chunks for a portal that limits upload size
  • Giving each branch or distributor a file containing only their own rows
  • Separating a combined customer master by state before sending it to regional staff
  • Saving every tab of a shared workbook as its own file for individual owners

Good to know

The first row is always treated as the header and is copied into every output file. Splitting by column refuses to run when the column has more than 500 distinct values, since that would create 500 downloads; pick a column with fewer groups. Blank values are grouped together under (blank). Formatting and formulas are not preserved, only values.

Frequently asked questions

Does each split file keep the column headings?
Yes. The header row is written into every part, so each file opens as a complete table you can filter or import straight away.
What happens to rows with an empty value in the split column?
They are collected into one file named (blank), so no row is silently dropped and you can see exactly what needs fixing.
Why am I told there are too many unique values?
Splitting by that column would produce more than 500 files. Choose a broader column, such as state instead of pin code, or split every N rows instead.
Can I split by more than one column?
No, one column at a time. Split by the first column, then run the parts through the tool again to break them down further.
