About Excel Viewer

Excel Viewer opens XLSX, XLS, ODS and CSV files in the browser when you do not have Excel on the device, or do not want to install anything just to read one attachment. Switch between sheets, search across the rows, and click any column heading to sort. The file is opened locally, so you can safely look at a salary sheet or bank statement on a borrowed computer.

How to use Excel Viewer

  1. Drop the spreadsheet onto the page or click to browse for it.
  2. Use the sheet chips above the table to move between tabs.
  3. Type in the search box to keep only the rows containing that text.
  4. Click a column heading once to sort ascending, again to sort descending.

What people use it for

  • Reading an XLSX attachment on a phone or a shared office PC without Excel
  • Quickly checking whether a supplier's price list contains a particular item code
  • Sorting a long list by amount or date to spot the largest entries
  • Confirming a file is not corrupted before forwarding it to someone else

Good to know

This is a read-only viewer: you can look, search and sort, but you cannot edit or save changes. The table shows the first 3,000 matching rows for speed, though searching and sorting still consider the whole sheet. Formulas appear as their stored results, and charts, images and cell colours are not displayed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit cells in the viewer?
No, it is read-only by design. Use Clean & Deduplicate Data or Split Excel if you need to change the file, or open it in a spreadsheet program.
Why does it say showing first 3,000 rows?
Drawing a huge table slows the page down, so only the first 3,000 rows are rendered. Search and sort still run over every row in the sheet.
Does it open old .xls files?
Yes. XLSX, XLSM, XLSB, XLS, ODS, CSV and TSV all open, which covers most files exported by accounting and billing software.
Is the file uploaded to view it?
No. It is read straight from your disk into the browser tab and disappears from memory when you close or refresh the page.
