About Excel to JSON
Excel to JSON reads a spreadsheet and hands you clean JSON you can paste into an API call, a test fixture or a front-end mock. Choose whether the header row becomes object keys or you want plain arrays of arrays. Useful when a client sends product data as a sheet and your code expects JSON. The workbook is parsed locally and the JSON never leaves the browser tab.
How to use Excel to JSON
- Open your XLSX, XLS, ODS or CSV file in the drop area.
- Choose the sheet you want from the Sheet list.
- Pick Array of objects to use the first row as keys, or Array of arrays for raw rows.
- Click Convert to JSON, then copy the result or download it as a .json file.
What people use it for
- Turning a product or price sheet from a supplier into seed data for an app
- Building a quick JSON fixture for API tests from a QA team's spreadsheet
- Feeding a sheet of survey responses into a charting library
- Checking what a client's data actually looks like before writing an importer
Good to know
In object mode the first row must hold the column names; blank headers produce keys like __EMPTY. Empty cells come through as null, and dates are returned as the sheet stores them. Merged cells, formulas and formatting are not represented in JSON. Pretty print adds two-space indentation; untick it for a compact single-line file.
