About Password Generator

Build strong random passwords without inventing them yourself, which people are famously bad at. Choose a length, decide which character types to include, and generate up to a hundred at once with an entropy rating for each batch. Every password comes from your browser's cryptographic random source, is shown only on your screen, and is never sent anywhere or saved by this site.

How to use Password Generator

  1. Drag the Length slider, from 6 up to 128 characters; 16 or more is a sensible floor.
  2. Tick the character sets you need: A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and symbols.
  3. Keep Exclude look-alikes on when the password will be read aloud or typed from paper.
  4. Set How many and click Generate, then check the entropy badge above the list.
  5. Use Copy next to the password you want and paste it straight into your password manager.

What people use it for

  • Creating a unique password for a bank, GST portal or email account instead of reusing one
  • Generating Wi-Fi passphrases and shared logins for a shop, café or small office
  • Making database and admin credentials for a project that are not a birthday or a pet's name
  • Producing a batch of starter passwords to hand out to new staff or students

Good to know

At least one character from every set you tick is guaranteed, and the result is shuffled so the pattern is not predictable. The entropy badge estimates strength in bits from the length and alphabet size: under 50 bits is weak, above 80 is strong. Nothing is stored, so copy a password before you close the tab or generate again.

Frequently asked questions

Are these passwords sent to or stored on a server?
No. They are generated in your browser with the Web Crypto random generator, displayed only on your screen, and never transmitted or saved. Closing the tab destroys them permanently.
Is the randomness actually secure?
Yes. It uses crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographically secure source, not the predictable Math.random. Values are also drawn without the bias that a simple modulo would introduce.
How long should my password be?
Aim for 16 characters or more for important accounts, and longer where a site allows it. Length adds more strength than exotic symbols, as the entropy badge shows.
What does excluding look-alike characters do?
It removes 0, O, 1, l and I so nobody misreads the password when copying it from a note or a printed sheet. It slightly reduces entropy, so add a character or two.
